Tom Richardson was the son of William and Emily Richardson, born in 1894. In the 1911 census, the family are farmers but also run and live at the Stag’s Head, Mill Lane in Great Warford.
According to the Absent Voter’s List of 1919, Tom was a driver in the 190th Heavy Battery Royal Garrison Artillery, who fought at Salonika in 1917, Regimental No: 80138.
They would have been equipped with heavy guns, to send large calibre high explosive shells to destroy enemy artillery, and also infrastructure behind enemy lines such as roads or railways.
